“Pit Bull” Co-op © 2004-2010

The "Pit Bull" Co-op was born at the wake of Ontario's introduction of Bill 132, also known as the infamous "pit bull ban," introduced by then Ontario’s Attorney General, Michael Bryant, in 2005. Founders Debbie and Violet came together with the idea of creating a "pit bull" network across the city, and in hopes of creating pit bull groups across the entire province in the future.

Today, the "Pit Bull" Co-op currently meets on a weekly basis in down town Toronto. Any interested parties are welcome, as long as they are in full control of their dogs - all pit bulls must be properly leashed and muzzled - for more information on meetup times and days, please contact us. The "Pit Bull" Co-op has been formed by and for responsible "pit bull" owners (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, etc) in order to maintain a 'quality of life' for our dogs in the face of Bill 132. The co-op members meet with their "pit bulls" as well as supporters and their non-pit bull type dogs for leashed and muzzled dog walks. We also investigate ways of providing legal fenced or enclosed areas, in order to more properly socialize and exercise our dogs.

While the primary function of the Co-op will be to provide socialization for dogs and owners on a not-for-profit basis, the

Co-op recognizes that optimally, this will require Bill 132 to be disposed of in favor of intelligent non-breed specific legislation. To this end, the Co-op recognizes the need to support organizations such as "Banned Aid," in their legal struggle to have this bill declared unconstitutional. The Co-op may wish to organize fundraisers in order to help in this fight. Although the "Pit Bull"

Co-op is Toronto based, we would like to encourage other groups in Ontario to form their own groups. We would then have provincial Liaisons, for sharing of information, ideas, emotional support, and of course political actions.

The Co-op recognizes the difficulty in arranging meetings for large groups of people and dogs, however, smaller groups can meet more often - maintain networking, allowing for all the dogs and people to meet one another, and when we do come together for a large dog walk or protest march, all of our dogs will be more comfortable with one another. The Co-op also promotes whenever possible, all other positive "bullie groups" and rescues.

The "Pit Bull" Co-op has an official facebook group. Please join us and share any comments, concerns, or simply check in to see when our next walks are, or any upcoming events:

The "Pit Bull" Co-op is looking to expand. We are seeing a growing interest in creating new chapters to the Co-op in London and Mississauga, Ontario. We are in the process of assigning location leaders and would like your imput. We have held weekly walks in downtown Toronto for almost two years and we hold "special walks" every six weeks or so in the afternoon - these walks are to accommodate the peeps and pups who travel a long distance to take part. We will be participating in the Official Pit Bull Awareness day on October 20th (and every October 20th!) and would love to have lots of "newbies"! All responsible owners of bullies are most welcome and if you do not have a bullie but you have a LOVE for Them... please join us for a walk, we would Love to have you (with or without a dog), all breeds are welcome! We have a very charming "regular" beagle! The ladies love him.

If you are interested in joining these new location walks, or have any input, suggestions, or comments, please give us a shout by email and keep visiting the site for more updates in the future in regards to our new chapters.
